Materhorn Drive Collision Kills 3rd Grade Student
Dallas, TX (March 17, 2024) – 9-year-old Max Hutchins was killed following a Materhorn Drive accident late Tuesday afternoon.
The fatal scooter accident happened at approximately 5:40 p.m. on March 12 near the intersection with San Paula Avenue.
Investigators said the victim and his family were on their way to his sister Hailey’s soccer game. They stopped by his grandmother’s house in East Dallas wherein Hutchins wanted to ride his electric scooter even just for 5 minutes.
Hutchins was riding his electric scooter near the intersection when he was struck by a pickup truck.
The victim’s mother is a trained medical assistant, she performed CPR on Max got his pulse back, and kept him in a safe place until the medical team arrived.
The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and doctors pronounced him brain dead Friday, March 15. His family kept Max on life support to protect his organs so they could be donated to save another life.
Dallas Police officers said they are still investigating and no charges have been filed.
Hutchins was a 3rd grader at P.M. Akin Elementary in Wylie and loved football and being with his family.
Moreover, Max Hutchins’s family has set up a GoFundMe to help with medical and funeral expenses.
