Maurico Jimenez-Ruelas Sustains Injury in Box Truck Crash on State Route 17 [Franklin County, WA]

Katie Van-Komen Injured in SR 17 Head-On Collision

Franklin County, WA (August 25, 2022) – On Wednesday, 24-year-old Maurico Jimenez-Ruelas of Pasco, and 38-year-old Katie Van-Komen of Ellensburg sustained injuries in a head-on collision on State Route 17.

The authorities say 29-year-old Edgar Jimenez-Ruelas of Pasco was driving a southbound box truck when he crossed the centerline and struck a Hay Squeezer head-on.

Edgar Jimenez-Ruelas did not sustain injuries from the collision. However, his passenger, Maurico Jimenez-Ruelas, incurred serious injuries.

Responding medics say Maurico incurred a serious arm injury with a possibly severed limb. Immediately, the paramedics airlifted him to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland.

Moreover, the Hay Squeezer driver, Katie Van-Komen, sustained minor injuries.

In the meantime, officers say alcohol and drugs were not a factor in this incident. But, they are still investigating why Edgar Jimenez-Ruelas crossed the centerline.
