25-Year-Old Man Dies in Rollover Crash on Highway 4 near Loveridge Road
PITTSBURG, CA (June 17, 2018) – A man died and a woman was injured in a single car crash on Highway 4 near Loveridge Road, Sunday morning.
CHP officers received reports at around 9:35 AM about a solo vehicle rollover in the eastbound lanes of Highway 4 just west of the Loveridge Road off-ramp. Responding officers found Maurelle Cater of Antioch dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that he was ejected from a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office identified Cater on Monday.
A woman who was a passenger in the Jeep Cherokee sustained major injuries after also being ejected from the vehicle. She remained in critical condition Monday at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek but is expected to recover.
According to witnesses, the driver was eastbound in the No. 2 lane at speeds of up to 80 to 90 miles per hour before veering across all lanes to the right. It crashed into a concrete curb and overturned after entering the right shoulder. The It was suspected that Cater and the woman were not wearing seat belts.
