Matthew Nichols Hospitalized After Rollover Crash on 241 Freeway in Irvine

Irvine, CA (September 25, 2024) – A GoFundMe page has been created for the family of Matthew Nichols, a firefighter who was critically injured in a truck crash in Orange County last week. 

Nichols is currently in a coma, fighting for his life following a rollover accident on the 241 Freeway in Irvine on Thursday.

At the time of the crash, eight firefighters were returning from a 12-hour shift battling the massive Airport Fire. 

According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle in front of the fire truck swerved to avoid a ladder on the road, causing the fire truck to swerve as well. 

The truck hit the guardrail on the right shoulder and overturned multiple times.

All eight firefighters were injured in the crash, with six, including Nichols, in critical condition. 

Nichols, along with his wife, has a 6-month-old son named Theodore. 

The funds raised through GoFundMe will assist in covering child care expenses during Nichols’ recovery.
