Matthew Loper Dies in Barstow Fatal Bus Crash on National Trails Highway
Barstow, CA (October 22, 2020) – Thursday morning, 35-year-old Matthew Loper, a resident of Helendale, died in a head-on crash involving an occupied school bus on National Trails Highway and Hodge Road.
The fatal collision happened at about 8:00 am on October 22.
According to reports, a Riverside Prep School Bus and a 2020 Nissan Sentra collided head-on for unknown reasons killing the Nissan driver, Loper, on the scene. The 12 students on-board remained uninjured.
Meanwhile, California Highway Patrol closed Route 66 for several hours as the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call dispatch at 760-241-1186.
