Matthew Heard Dies, 2 Hospitalized after DUI Crash on 19th Avenue in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (April 9, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, 46-year-old Matthew Heard died, and two others sustained injuries in a crash on 19th and Peoria avenues.

The fatal crash on 19th Avenue in Phoenix happened around 3 a.m. on April 9.

Phoenix Police said they found three people hurt after the wreck. 

EMS rushed Heard to the hospital, where he later died. Two other patients sustained minor injuries.

Investigators believe Heard was driving east on Peoria when he veered into the westbound lanes and struck the other vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle showed signs and symptoms of impairment.

They were processed for DUI, cited, and released.

Further investigation into this crash is ongoing.
