Mateo Lopez of Edinburg Killed in FM 2812 Vehicle Collision [Welasco, TX]

Driver and Passenger Die in Welasco 2-Vehicle Crash

Welasco, TX (July 4, 2023) – On Sunday evening, 41-year-old Domingo Rodriguez, and his passenger, Mateo Lopez, both from Edinburg, were killed in an FM 2812 vehicle collision.

DPS said the two-vehicle collision unfolded at about 7:20 p.m. at Kenyon Road, east of Edinburg.

Officers stated that a brown Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Rodriguez with his passenger, Lopez, was southbound on Kenyon Road.

At the same time, a brown Chevrolet Suburban occupied by a female driver and five passengers was eastbound on FM 2812.

The two vehicles collided. 

EMS took the driver and passengers of the Suburban to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Unfortunately, Rodriguez and Lopez succumbed to their injuries at the accident scene.

In the meantime, DPS troopers are further investigating the Welasco 2-vehicle crash.
