Early Multi-Vehicle Crash on 91 Freeway in Corona Kills One and Sends Another to Hospital
CORONA, CA (April 18, 2019) – A young man was killed following a multi-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Corona, CHP officials said.
The fatal crash happened around 12:45 a.m. on eastbound 91 Freeway at Buena Vista Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford Focus and a Honda Accord collided for unknown reasons, leaving both vehicles stopped between the furthest right express lanes and two furthest left standard-traffic lanes on the freeway.
The Focus was facing westbound and did not have functioning lights after the initial crash, when it was hit head-on by a Mini Cooper. The impact ejected the Focus driver through the open driver’s side door onto the roadway.
That driver, identified as a 19-year-old Mason Parnell of Bakersfield, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 20-year-old Walnut man, was rushed to Riverside Community Hospital in an unknown condition.
Furthermore, a Toyota Corolla traveling behind the Cooper unable to stop in time and crashed into the rear of the Cooper, forcing it to slam into the Accord.
Officials said no arrests have been made, but the incident is still under investigation.
