37-Year-Old Smartsville Woman Fatally Injured in Accident near Walnut Avenue
MARYSVILLE, CA (April 26, 2018) – A head-on collision on Highway 20 claimed the life of a woman and injured a teenage boy, late Thursday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 11 PM near Walnut Avenue. A 2013 Honda, driven by a 37-year-old Smartsville woman, was headed eastbound on Highway 20 at a high rate of speed when it began to cross over the double yellow lines.
The driver did not manage to return to the eastbound lanes on time and collided head-on with a 1999 Dodge, driven by a 17-year-old teenager from Yuba City.
Responding officers discovered both vehicles facing north, with the Honda on its wheels and the Dodge overturned onto its driver’s side. The driver of the Honda succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident, while the teenage boy was rushed to the Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville with moderate injuries.
Highway 20 was shut down in both directions for around two hours for investigation and cleanup of the wreckage.
Investigators do not believe that alcohol or drugs are involved in the fatal collision. They continue to investigate in order to figure out the cause of the collision. Parties involved were not immediately identified and no other information is available at this time.
