70-Year-Old Los Angeles Woman Fatally Struck by Car at Kansas Avenue
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 14, 2018) – A woman was struck and killed by a car in a pedestrian accident on West Florence Avenue, early Thursday morning. She was later identified as 70-year-old Mary Thomas of Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the accident took place around 4:30 AM, at the intersection of West Florence Avenue and Kansas Avenue.
Lt TJ Kim from the LAPD stated that Thomas was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk, when she was struck by a silver Toyota sedan, almost at the middle of the intersection. She sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officials during their investigation. His identity was not immediately available. Police continue to investigate and will conduct interviews with neighbors and look through surveillance footage of nearby residential homes and businesses.
Roads were closed off in the area between South Budlong and South Velmont Avenues for several hours, while authorities investigated the scene. Traffic was diverted, causing major delays in the area.
