People Injured in Fatal Crash Near Milepost 21
Vancouver, WA (November 30, 2022) – Yesterday, Mary Schafer, 73, died while Vincent Carnera, 31, of Washougal, Thomas Schafer, 61, also of Washougal, and a 2-year-old child, sustained injuries in a Highway 14 collision.
The WSP responded to the two-vehicle crash at 2:11 p.m. near Milepost 21.
According to the investigators, a Toyota C-HR driven by Vincent Carnera on the freeway crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Subaru Impreza, driven by Thomas Schafer.
The paramedics rushed Thomas Schafer’s passenger, Mary Schafer, to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, where they declared her dead.
Meanwhile, Thomas Schafer sustained injuries and was also transported to PeaceHealth Southwest.
Vincent Carnera and his 2-year-old passenger were also rushed to Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center in Portland.
Officers stated excessive speed played a role in the fatal crash near Milepost 21. They said drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident.
