Brian Scruggs and Others Hurt in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision on US 287

Anderson County, TX (January 30, 2024) On Saturday evening, 22-year-old Mary Merlino of Mineola, and a driver died, while 3 others were hurt in a tragic collision on Highway 287.

According to the Texas DPS, the fatal multi-vehicle collision happened at about 6:18 p.m. on U.S. Highway 287.

Reports say that 22-year-old Brian Scruggs was driving a Chevrolet Silverado that rear-ended a Honda Accord driven by a Palestine woman. The impact of the crash pushed the Honda to collide with a Ford Taurus head-on.

The collision killed the driver of the Ford, along with Merlino, who were the passenger on the Ford.

Meanwhile, after the collision with the Honda, Scruggs’ vehicle drove off the roadway into a tree. Medics rushed Scruggs and both the driver and passenger of the Ford to the hospital.

Authorities are investigating the fatal collision and have not released further information at this time.
