51-year-old Mary Jo Long Dies After Crash on U.S. 285 in Santa Fe

Santa Fe, NM (October 21, 2024) – A vehicle struck and killed an Oklahoma woman, Mary Jo Long, in a crash on U.S. 285 on Thursday. 

According to New Mexico State Police, the 51-year-old woman was walking southbound on the highway near the Interstate 25 underpass close to Eldorado when the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning. 

Police responded to reports of the crash around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday.

State police spokesperson Wilson Silver stated in an email Monday that Long was “attempting to cross the highway for an unknown reason” when the vehicle hit her.
