Mary Cooper and Passengers Killed in Big Rig Crash on FM 2648 [Powderly, TX]

Powderly, TX (July 25, 2023) – On Friday morning, Mary Cooper of Hugo, Oklahoma, Janet Carter, 61, of Durant, Oklahoma, Koolasha Green, 18, and a 16-year-old boy, were killed in a big rig crash on FM 2648.

At about 10:55 a.m., Clarence Fowler, of Valiant, Oklahoma was driving a 2000 Peterbilt hauling a trailer westbound on the highway. Investigating officers said he failed to yield to a southbound SUV heading on US 271.

Officers said the 2013 Toyota Highlander driven by Mary Cooper had the right of way at the intersection. The SUV went under the trailer, resulting in fatalities.

Unfortunately, Mary Cooper, along with her passengers, Carter, Green, and a 16-year-old boy died in the accident. 

Officers said Fowler did not sustain injured from the collision.

Texas DPS is investigating this fatal collision.
