Woman Injured in Lompoc Pedestrian Accident on North H Street
LOMPOC, CA (August 10, 2022) – Monday night, authorities arrested Mary Alice Brown after a hit-and-run crash on North H Street.
The incident happened at around 7:00 p.m. in the 1300 block of North H Street. According to reports, a 51-year-old Lompoc woman walked into a parking lot. Then, a vehicle struck her and left.
“A witness to the accident said the car knocked the victim to the ground and drove over her,” Sgt. Jorge Magana said.
Officers confirmed that the victim’s legs and chest suffered trauma. Thus, a Calstar medical helicopter took her to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Her identity remains undisclosed.
The investigation revealed that 67-year-old Mary Alice Brown of Lompoc drove the hit-and-run vehicle. Authorities arrested her on suspicion of felony hit and run. Then, they booked Brown into Santa Barbara County Jail, where she remained Tuesday afternoon with bail set at $50,000.
Meanwhile, officers found that Brown didn’t drive a motor vehicle while under the influence.
The Lompoc Police Department urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact investigators at 805.736.2341.
If you feel yourself drifting into other lanes due to fatigue or any other reason, safely pull over and rest before continuing to drive. You can also call a friend or an Uber to pick you up if you feel like it would be unsafe to drive.
Ways to Deal with Pedestrian Accidents
Each year, around 20-50 million people are injured or disabled due to a crash. To avoid suffering from such incidents, practice safe driving habits on the road at all times.
As a driver, it’s your responsibility to do it even when it is empty, even when there is no police officer around to make sure you make, say, a complete stop.
Even with the best driving habits, it is still important to know what to do if you find yourself in a motor vehicle accident.
