Deadly Pedestrian Crash on Highway 4 in Martinez
MARTINEZ, CA (February 21, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car Thursday evening in Martinez, authorities said.
Around 8:25 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of an initial collision in the eastbound lanes of Highway 4, just West of the Pacheco Boulevard off-ramp.
The initial crash involved a white car and a gray car, both were recovered in the center divider. One of the cars was speeding prior to the crash.
A woman reportedly ran from the center divider to the right shoulder, then back to the center divider when she was struck by a vehicle.
The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office coroner’s staff responded to the scene and confirmed the fatality of the incident.
A SigAlert was issued in the area, blocking all westbound lanes at Glacier Drive and traffic was diverted to Pacheco Boulevard.
Further details, including the identity of the victim, were not immediately available. Investigation of this fatal incident is still ongoing.
