Morning 2-Car Wreck in Martinez Kills One and Badly Injures Another
MARTINEZ, CA (December 25, 2018) – One person was killed following a two-car crash Tuesday morning in Martinez, CHP officials said.
The fatal crash happened around 10:43 a.m. on Cummings Skyway off-ramp, just North of Highway 4.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford sedan had drifted off the roadway and onto a dirt shoulder when it overcorrected into oncoming traffic. It then crashed its passenger side of a Nissan Xterra.
The Nissan driver suffered fatal injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.
The Ford driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital with major injuries.
Cummings Skyway was shut down in both directions while officers and crews worked on the scene.
It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors fo the crash. Further investigation is underway.
