Martina Lopez Valdez of Dos Palos Killed in Tractor Truck Crash on Turner Island Road [Merced County, CA]

Merced County, CA (September 30, 2021) – On Wednesday, 50-year-old Martina Lopez Valdez of Dos Palos, dies in a head-on crash on Turner Island Road involving the 54-year-old Joaquin Hernandez, also of Dos Palos.

The authorities responded to the accident scene at about 6:26 a.m. at the Palazzo Road intersection.

The responding officers located a 2015 Chevrolet Spark and a 2017 Challenger tractor with an attached furrow chisel at the scene.

Officers said Hernandez was northbound in a tractor on Turner Island Road from the west shoulder.

They said that due to the width of the tractor, it consumed the majority of both the northbound and southbound lanes.

At the same time, Lopez Valdez was southbound in a Chevrolet on Turner Island Road at an unknown speed.

Investigating officers said that due to factors including darkness, the width of the tractor, and limited lighting, the Chevrolet crashed head-on with the left side of the tractor’s furrow chisel.

Unfortunately,  Lopez Valdez died at the crash scene. 

The officers said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the fatal crash.
