Alberto Valenzuela Arrested after Hit-And-Run Crash on 35th Avenue in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (October 1, 2023) – Sunday night, 26-year-old Martin Anaya died in a hit-and-run crash on 35th Avenue.

The fatal crash happened just after 7:30 p.m. on October 1.

Phoenix police said they found Anaya with critical injuries was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators found that a 28-year-old man, identified as Frank Avila, had attempted to rob Anaya on a city bus. During the attempted robbery, Avila stabbed Anaya, who then ran from the bus to escape. 

Moreover, Avila gave chase, resulting in Anaya being struck and killed by a car.

The driver of that car did not remain at the scene. He was later located by police and arrested for leaving the scene of a deadly crash. 

He has been identified as 46-year-old Alberto Valenzuela.

During the incident, a witness allegedly shot Avila in the leg when he tried to intervene. According to Phoenix PD, the shooter was questioned and released.

Avila was taken to a hospital for treatment and released into police custody. He was arrested and jailed on several charges, including armed robbery and murder.
