Marlen Benitez Struck by DUI Driver in Parking Lot on East Highland Street

 
SAN BERNARDINO, CA (October 17, 2020) – Tuesday afternoon, a suspected DUI driver struck Marlen Benitez, a fruit vendor, on East Highland Street.
 
The San Bernardino Police Department revealed that the crash happened at 3:19 p.m. It took place in a parking lot in the 4200 block of East Highland Street.
 
Also, SBPD revealed that the suspect’s black SUV struck Marlen Benitez who was working behind her fruit cart. As a result, Benitez sustained severe injuries.
 
At this time, the authorities suspect that the driver was under the influence of aerosol sprays upon finding several empty cans in his SUV. Thus, the police arrested the driver for felony assault and DUI.
 
Due to her injuries, responders transported her to Loma Linda University Medical Center, and was admitted to the intensive care unit.
