58-Year-Old Oxnard Man Fatally Injured in Motorcycle Accident on Victoria Avenue at Monaco Drive
OXNARD, CA (March 3, 2018) – A motorcycle rider died after a crash with a car Saturday evening in Oxnard, authorities said.
The accident occurred at around 6:17 PM at Victoria Avenue and Monaco Drive, near Channel Islands Boulevard and the border between Oxnard and Port Hueneme. The Oxnard Police Department confirmed that the crash was still within its jurisdiction.
The 58-year-old Oxnard motorcyclist, Mark Walpole, was riding a black 2005 Suzuki GSXR headed north on Victoria Avenue and approached the intersection at Monaco Drive when a 29-year-old Oxnard man was driving silver 2006 Honda Accord was driving southbound in the area. The Honda attempted to make a U-turn in the intersection when it was hit by the motorcycle. The car’s driver and its two passengers were not injured, authorities confirmed.
Walpole was trapped in the wreck and had to be pulled out at around 6:24 PM before being transported to Ventura County Medical Center. He was reportedly in grave condition and later died at the hospital.
