Mark Moore Dies after Hit-And-Run Crash on Hesperian Boulevard, Suspect Arrested
San Leandro, CA (July 9, 2020) – A 52-year-old bicyclist, identified as Mark Moore of San Leandro, died in a hit-and-run car crash on Hesperian Boulevard and Drew Street.
The accident happened at about 7:43 p.m. on June 28. Witnesses indicated that a bicyclist heading southbound on Hesperian Boulevard’s shoulder when a speeding, older model Lexus struck him.
However, the driver fled the scene leaving Moore unresponsive and severely injured. Emergency crews then transported Moore to Eden Hospital in critical condition, but he died two days after.
San Leandro police traffic investigators gathered evidence led to a certain Ric Acosta, 38 years old, and resident of San Leandro, being identified as the driver of the Lexus that struck Moore.
Then on July 2, authorities arrested Acosta at his apartment just a few blocks away from where the accident happened and formally charged on Monday. According to court documents, he has two prior felony convictions.
At this time, he is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail and is scheduled to enter a plea on July 21.
