Mark Leonard Mason Dies After Crash on East 22nd Street in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (June 17, 2024) – Mark Leonard Mason, 52, died from his injuries in the hospital over the weekend following a crash while negotiating a left turn in midtown on June 12. 

Mason was driving westbound on East 22nd Street when he attempted a left turn onto South Cherrybell Stravenue, according to a news release from the Tucson Police Department. 

During the turn, his 2014 BMW collided with an eastbound Honda Accord. 

Debris from the crash struck a 2013 Scion FR-S stopped in the northbound right-turn lane on Cherrybell.

The Tucson Police determined the driver of the Accord was not impaired at the time of the crash. 

Mason was taken to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, while the drivers of the Accord and Scion did not require hospital transport. 

On Saturday, June 15, the Tucson Police were notified that Mason had died from his injuries. 

According to the news release, Mason’s failure to yield while making a left turn was a major factor in the crash. 

The investigation is ongoing.
