PACIFIC PALISADES, CA (February 13, 2018) – A fatal crash involving a Ferrari was reported on Tuesday evening around 6:30 PM, on the 500 block of North Chautauqua Boulevard near the Riviera Country Club.
According to reports, 71-year-old Mark Gibello was driving the Ferrari at high speeds on Chautauqua Blvd when it lost control and clipped a Toyota FJ SUV, driven by 46-year-old actor Luke Wilson. The Italian sports car then crashed into a silver BMW SUV before hitting a utility pole head-on.
Gibello was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency personnel that responded to the crash. Passenger and professional golfer, Bill Haas, was seriously injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. A 50-year-old woman in the BMW that was hit, was also taken to the hospital with critical injuries. No other injuries were reported
Haas, 35, withdrew from the Genesis Open at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles in order to heal from his injuries suffered in the accident.
There is an ongoing investigation at this time as officials conduct witness interviews and go through surveillance footage from the Pacific Palisades neighborhood area. Los Angeles Police Detective Jeff Fischer stated that they believe speed may have played a role in this fatal collision.
Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mark Gibello. May he rest in peace.
