One Killed and Two Injured in Car Crash on 800 Block of Northwest 99th Street
VANCOUVER, WA (March 6, 2018) – Officials identify the woman fatally injured in the accident in front of Columbia River High School, that occurred on Tuesday morning around 10:17 AM.
According to reports, 86-year-old Marion Klitza was driving west in a grey Volkswagen Jetta on the 800 block of NW 99th Street, when a student pulled out of the high school parking lot on 99th in a green Subaru Legacy. The two cars collided.
Police officials and Fire District 6 personnel arrived at the scene of the accident, and pronounced the elderly woman dead. Her 86-year-old husband, Franz Klitza, was a passenger and suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to the PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment, as well as the 17-year-old student who sustained serious, but non-life threatening, injuries. Klitza was listed in satisfactory condition on Wednesday afternoon.
The Jetta sustained front-end damage and stopped on the sidewalk, while the Subaru came to rest facing west in the road. Access to the high school and the sections of NW 99th were closed off for several hours while authorities investigated.
Drugs and alcohol do not seem to be contributing factors in this incident. The cause of the fatal crash is still under investigation at this time by the Clark County Major Crash Traffic Unit. No other information has been released on the identity of the student involved.
Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Marion Kalitza. May she rest in peace.
