Francisco Morales Injured in Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision near Munzer Road
BUTTONWILLOW, CA (October 17, 2018) – A man was killed Wednesday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 43. The deceased victim was later identified as 27-year-old Mario Ruiz, a resident of Fresno.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 4:10 PM near Munzer Road. A 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Francisco Morales of Bakersfield, was heading south on the 43 freeway when it drifted off the roadway.
Morales turned left in an attempt to correct his vehicle, but lost control. Because of this, he entered the northbound lane and collided with a 2015 Nissan driven by Ruiz.
Ruiz suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, Morales was transported to the Kern Medical Center with major injuries. Updates on his current medical condition were not immediately available.
Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the fatal crash, which remains under investigation. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
