Pavel Kanyushkin Arrested after Fatal Pedestrian Collision on East Mission Avenue
LIBERTY LAKE, WA (October 22, 2018) – On Thursday morning, a woman was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Country Vista Drive. The deceased victim was later identified as 61-year-old Marilyn Dhaenens.
The fatal incident occurred around 8:15 AM at the intersection of Country Vista Drive and East Mission Avenue.
Police officers and firefighters arrived at the scene of the crash to find the critically injured woman in the road. Dhaenens was transported to the Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff.
In an effort to identify the suspect, police had shared a photo of the red Dodge pickup truck that struck the woman, and investigators found the truck with help from the community. The vehicle was towed and searched by the Washington State Patrol, before investigators interviewed 21-year-old Pavel Kanyushkin. Kanyushkin was then arrested Monday evening by Liberty Lake Police, and is now facing vehicular homicide charges.
Events leading up to the collision are unclear as the investigation continues.
We offer our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Marilyn Dhaenens. She had been a broker with the Spokane Valley branch of John L. Scott Real Estate since 2012. May she rest in peace.
