Moreno Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash in Perris Identified by Authorities
PERRIS, CA (January 29, 2018) – A female victim that was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash near Patriot Park has been identified as a Moreno Valley woman, coroner’s officials said.
Maricela Martinez, 47, was struck about 8 PM on Monday. She was walking along Murrieta Road near Patriot Park, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s officials. Martinez was critically injured and transported to the Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 9:40 PM.
Sheriff’s officials stated that a witness saw a Chevrolet pickup truck hit Martinez and fled. The witness followed the hit-and-run vehicle, and gave the exact location to the authorities.
Ismael Rivas, 50, was arrested by the sherriff’s officials and remained jailed until the Wednesday after the incident. According to booking logs, he was detained at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center in French Valley on suspicion of murder, felony hit-and-run, and driving under the influence.
It has been found that Rivas has previous DUI convictions based on court records.
