Barbara Vergara Arrested after Fatal Hit-and-Run on Balboa Boulevard
NORTHRIDGE, CA (October 20, 2019) – Authorities identified 54-year-old Maribel Elizabeth Garcia of Van Nuys as the woman killed in a hit-and-run crash on Balboa Boulevard, Sunday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the incident happened at about 5:20 AM. A pickup truck had been southbound on Balboa Boulevard when it ran a red light. Then, the vehicle collided with a gray sedan near Lassen Street.
The sedan driver, later identified as Garcia, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown whether or not Garcia had passengers at the time of the collision.
Meanwhile, the pickup driver, identified as 54-year-old Barbara Ann Vergara, fled the scene on foot. Hours later, the LAPD’s Valley Traffic division located and arrested Vergara. According to jail records, she was being held on $90,000 bail.
