CHICO, CA (March 12, 2018) – Three people were injured in a multiple-vehicle collision on Highway 99 near the East Avenue on-ramp, late Monday night.

Around 10:35 PM, 24-year-old Mariah Halverson of Chico was driving a 1997 Ford Mustang southbound on Highway 99 at East Avenue when her vehicle went down into the embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car came to a stop against a tree in rainy conditions.

An unidentified resident from a nearby home checked on the accident and flagged down a second car, a 2004 Kia Sorento. The Kia was driven by 45-year-old William Prasun of Quincy. Prasun parked his vehicle on the right shoulder of the on-ramp to protect the disabled vehicle.

A few minutes later, 24-year-old Kiri Moore of Chico entered the on-ramp, driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma, and rear-ended the Kia and then the Ford. She then crashed into the nearby trees.

Halverson in the Ford suffered a broken hip and was transported to the Enloe Medical Center. Prasun in the Kia was unhurt, but passengers 25-year-old Hayley Heathcock of Chico and 48-year-old Jo Lynn Heathcock of Quincy, sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the same hospital.

Moore sustained minor head injuries and was hospitalized. She was arrested at the scene and is facing charges of felony driving under the influence.
