1 Dead and 2 Hurt in Bakersfield Car Accident on Old River Road
BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 27, 2019) – A woman died while two juveniles sustained injuries in a car accident on Old River Road.
The incident occurred on November 24 at about 4:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of Old River Road. Upon their arrival, they located dead Maria Vianey Navarro inside a van. They also found two juvenile passengers with moderate to major injuries.
Police found out that a street race between a Mustang and a Dodge Ram occurred on the northbound side of Old River. However, the Mustang driver lost control and struck the victim’s van who’s not involved in the race.
The impact led the van to spin into oncoming traffic where it got struck by another truck.
Authorities arrested the Mustang driver, 50-year-old Ronald Pierce, for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, reckless driving, reckless driving causing injury and participating in a speed contest. He’s now facing the following charges: Second-degree murder, Gross vehicular manslaughter, Driving under the influence, Reckless driving with injury, Reckless driving: Highway and Engaging in street racing.
Meanwhile, Navarro’s family set up a GoFundMe to provide for the children’s medical bills and funeral costs.
