52-Year-Old Woman Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Logan Heights
LOGAN HEIGHTS, CA (November 15, 2019) – An unidentified woman died in a hit-and-run crash Friday morning in Logan Heights.
The crash happened around 11:00 a.m., at Cesar Chavez Parkway and Kearney Avenue, just near Chicano Park.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 52-year-old Maria Estrada Romero of San Diego was walking in a crosswalk near the intersection when a pickup truck struck her.
Responding paramedics later took Romero to UC San Diego Medical Center in Hillcrest. There, doctors diagnosed her with a bleed between her brain and skull. Her condition worsened before she was later pronounced dead at 1:40 p.m., on Sunday.
The suspect’s vehicle was described as a white Ford F-150 with a tinted back window and a white California sticker. It took off heading north on Kearney Avenue after the crash.
Authorities say the driver remains at large.
No detailed description of the driver was immediately available.
Officers with SDPD’s traffic division were investigating the fatal incident.
