Eva Lopez, Veronica Luna, and Maria Rivas Fatally Injured in Wrong-Way Crash near East Court Avenue, Brenda Garcia Arrested
PIXLEY, CA (October 14, 2018) – Three women were killed Sunday evening following a DUI crash near East Court Avenue. The deceased victims were later identified as 77-year-old Maria Rivas, her 75-year-old sister Eva Lopez, and 45-year-old Veronica Luna.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 7:30 PM on Highway 99.
A 2014 Ford, driven by 23-year-old Brenda Garcia, was traveling on the wrong side of the highway when it collided head-on with a 2018 Nissan.
Both the driver and the front seat passenger of the Nissan were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, the rear passenger was rushed to the Delano Regional Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries. It was not specified who among Rivas, Lopez, and Luna was operating the Nissan at the time of the collision.
Garcia was transported to the Kaweah Delta Medical Center with major injuries. Officers determined that she was under the influence of alcohol after confirmation of blood tests taken at the hospital. Once she is medically cleared, she will be arrested and booked into the Tulare County Pretrial Facility.
