Maria Ramirez Dead, 6 Others injured in Head-On Crash on Highway 41 near Harlan Avenue
RIVERDALE, CA (August 2, 2019) – A woman died while six others sustained injuries following a head-on crash Friday evening in Riverdale.
The crash happened around 8:50 p.m. along Highway 41 near Harlan Avenue. According to the CHP, a Honda Civic traveled southbound on Highway 41 when it drifted into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Kia SUV carrying a family of four.
The woman driving the Honda died at the scene. Police later identified her as Maria Martinez Ramirez, 20, of Arkansas.
The four occupants in the Kia, one adult and three children ages 6-15, were injured.
Following the initial crash, a female witness pulled over across the road, got out and walked across to help the people who were injured. She was then hit by a car that later crashed head-on into an 18-wheeler.
That woman suffered major injuries. As a result, paramedics transported her to a hospital along with the other injured parties.
The driver that struck the good Samaritan, a man in his 30s, was also injured.
The big rig driver did not sustain any injuries.
Highway 41 closed in both directions while officers and crews worked on the scene.
Investigation of this crash is still ongoing.
