Maria Ramirez Killed, 5 Injured after Fresno Chain Reaction Collision
FRESNO, CA (August 5, 2019) – A woman identified as Maria Ramirez died and five others sustained injuries after several collisions in Fresno.
The accident happened on Highway 41 near Caruthers on Friday night, August 2. California Highway Patrol said that 20-year-old Ramirez, of Arkansas, tried to pass a vehicle legally on the two-lane highway. After that, she crashed head-on into a family of four.
According to authorities, a woman who witnessed the crash pulled over across the road. As a result, she walked across the road to give aid to the people who suffered injuries.
A vehicle then struck her before crashing head-on into an 18-wheeler.
Paul Reiter, another witness, stated that he hopes everybody else is ok.
Reiter had his trailer clipped by the car that also struck the woman who tried to be a Good Samaritan. Paramedics transported the woman to the hospital with major injuries to the lower portion of her body.
First responders brought a total of five people to the hospital. Three of them were children between the ages of 6 and 15. Their injuries range from major to minor.
