44-Year-Old Juvenile Correctional Officer and 11-Year-Old Girl Dead in Crash near West Hanford-Armona Road
LEMOORE, CA (July 7, 2018) – A mother and her child were killed Saturday afternoon after their vehicle collided with a pickup truck on Highway 41.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place shortly before 2 PM. A westbound 2015 Honda Accord, driven by 44-year-old Maria Mora Torres, of Lemoore, reportedly ran a red light at West Hanford-Armona Road and was hit by a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup traveling north on Highway 41.
Two other vehicles were involved in the collision, as per reports. The driver of the Chevy complained of pain, while the other two drivers were reportedly unharmed. Unfortunately, Torres and her 11-year-old daughter sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators noted that everyone involved in the incident was secured in a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the crash. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
