LOS ANGELES, CA (February 4, 2021) – On a Tuesday afternoon, Maria Mata, 66, died in a hit-and-run crash on Main Street and 97th Street.

According to Los Angeles Police Department, the incident happened at around 5:50 p.m. Moreover, it occurred at the intersection of Main Street and 97th Street, in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood.

Also, reports revealed that a southbound white pickup truck with wood paneling struck the Los Angeles woman. The pedestrian was walking outside a marked crosswalk on 97th Street during the crash.

Meanwhile, the suspect vehicle fled the scene towards the south and turned east onto 98th Street, police added.

Afterward, responders transported the victim to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Due to the limited information, the authorities are asking for the public’s help. They urged everyone with information regarding the suspect vehicle to contact them as soon as possible.

A reward of up to $50,000 has been offered by the Los Angeles City Council for information that will help authorities find the assailant in this hit and run.

Deadly Pedestrian Accidents in California

While car accidents are far more common than pedestrian accidents, there is still reason to be wary when traveling on foot.

Moreover, common locations for these pedestrian incidents include shopping center entrances and street corners.

“Pedestrian accidents do not occur as much as motor vehicle accidents, but the pedestrian accidents tend to include more serious injuries,” says Tyler Toomey, a practicing attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
