One Killed and Others Injured in Deadly Car Crash on Cherry Avenue and Arrow Route Intersection
FONTANA, CA (January 11, 2018) – At least one person was killed in a two car accident that took place on Cherry Avenue, Thursday night at around 8:42 PM.
Reports stated that a Nissan pathfinder was traveling westbound on Arrow Route, when the driver ran a red light and crashed into a Toyota Corolla. The Toyota was hit while making a turn from eastbound Arrow Route onto northbound Cherry Avenue on a green arrow.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department, ambulances, and other officials responded to the scene. It was reported that the sedan had major damage and looked as though it was “torn” in half. The SUV was overturned on its roof.
According to the Fire Department spokesperson Eric Sherwin, the driver of the Nissan SUV (Maria Gonzalez) and two children, were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The driver of the Corolla was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with critical injuries, and was pronounced dead shortly after.
The westbound side of Arrow Rte. was closed at Cherry Ave. and traffic was rerouted while an investigation took place. Police are unsure whether or not driving speed, alcohol abuse, or distracted driving played a role in the fatal accident.
