Sutter County Collision Kills 16-Month-Old Andres Ambriz
Sutter County, CA (February 22, 2023) – On Monday night, Maria Flores Soto, 25, and her 16-month-old son, Andres Ambriz, were killed in a DUI crash on State Route 20.
The fatal collision took place at about 10:10 p.m. east of Acacia Avenue.
Witnesses said a Chevrolet 3500 pickup truck driven by Francisco Jauregui, 43, was eastbound on the highway. He drove over the lines and crashed head-on with a Chevrolet Trailblazer.
The woman driving the Trailblazer, Maria Flores Soto, and her son Andres Ambriz, died.
Moreover, a 15-year-old passenger sustained major injuries and was rushed to a hospital.
The CHP said Jauregui attempted to run from the scene. Officers said he was found to be 2.5x over the legal limit at the scene.
Later on, the authorities arrested Francisco Jauregui on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death, two counts of vehicular manslaughter, attempting to leave the scene of an injury crash, and two counts of child endangerment.
