Tacos Delta Co-Founder Dies in Echo Park Collision
Echo Park, CA (May 28, 2023) – On Monday afternoon, Maria Esther Valdivia, 74, a co-founder of Tacos Delta, sustained fatal injuries following a pedestrian accident on Scott Street.
Investigating officers said Valdivia was crossing the intersection of Scott Street and Glendale Boulevard when a car struck her. The impact knocked her down causing severe head trauma.
The victim underwent brain surgery but Valdivia eventually succumbed to the injuries.
Valdivia founded Tacos Delta on Sunset Boulevard more than 42 years ago with her husband, Sergio, and his mother, Elisa.
Worried that when she failed to fetch her grandchildren from school, her family later located her at the hospital listed as a Jane Doe.
Moreover, the authorities described the involved driver as a younger woman in a black, older-model Mercedes. There is no indication the incident was a hit-and-run.
Since the family announced the death of Maria Esther Valdivia on social media, people have been dropping by Tacos Delta to pay their respects. The victim’s daughter said the memorial will be announced on the taqueria’s Instagram.
Officers are investigating.
