Chui Shin Arrested in Fatal DUI Crash on Highway 99
Selma, CA (October 18, 2023) On Monday evening, 71-year-old Maria Esquivel of Clovis died in a tragic DUI crash on Highway 99.
According to the CHP, the fatal rear-end collision happened around 9:30 p.m. on northbound Highway 99, north of Mountain View Avenue.
Reports say that a vehicle 61 year old Chui Shin was driving rear-ended an SUV. The impact of the collision forced the SUV off the road and crashed into a concrete barrier.
Authorities say that due to Shin’s level of alcohol impairment, he failed to avoid colliding with the rear of an SUV.
Officials say that Maria Trinidad Esquivel was one of the passengers in the SUV, she was declared dead at the scene. Meanwhile, 3 other occupants of the SUV suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital.
CHP says that Shin escaped injuries and was promptly arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and was later booked into the Fresno County Jail.
