Maria Cristina Duran Killed in Rollover Crash on SR 94 in Spring Valley

35-Year-Old Spring Valley Woman Fatally Injured in Accident near Kenwood Drive

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 1, 2018) – A rollover crash on State Route 94 claimed the life of a mother, on Tuesday morning. She was later identified as 35-year-old Maria Cristina Duran of Spring Valley.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision happened around 7:30 AM. A Kia Sportage, driven by Duran, was heading west on State Route 94 when a gold Honda Civic, driven by an unnamed 23-year-old man, merged onto the highway from Kenwood Drive.
 
To avoid the Honda, Duran swerved away from the vehicle, but lost control and rolled into the center divider.
 
The impact of the collision with barrier wall partially ejected Duran from the driver’s side, despite being secured in a seatbelt. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident and was pronounced dead. Two of Duran’s children, a 17-year-old boy in the front seat and a 12-year-old girl in the back seat, complained of body pains and were taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
 
The driver of the Honda was unharmed in the accident and stopped to collaborate with investigators. Authorities are still determining if his sudden lane-changing contributed to the collision, or if Duran over-corrected. Affected lanes were also shut down for almost three hours for further investigation, where it was concluded that drugs and alcohol did not play a factor in the accident.
