88-Year-Old Margaret Smith Dead after Bakersfield Head-on Accident on Highway 178 near Democrat Road
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 12, 2019) — An 88-year-old woman identified as Margaret Elizabeth Smith died after a crash on Friday, August 9.
According to the CHP, at around 3:09 p.m., they received a report of a head-on crash on Highway 178 west of Democrat Road.
Initial investigation determined that the driver of a 2007 Toyota Tacoma pickup traveled westbound on Highway 178. Then the driver crossed into the eastbound lane over a double-yellow line, CHP said.
The driver crashed into a silver 2011 Chevrolet Impala driven by Smith, who drove in the opposite direction.
Emergency responders rushed Smith to Kern Medical, where she died.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said that the coroner’s office will try to determine the cause and manner of death.
