88-Year-Old Margaret Smith Killed in Bakersfield Car Crash
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 9, 2019) – On Friday afternoon, 88-year-old Margaret Smith died in a car accident on Highway 178 in Bakersfield.
According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Department, the crash happened around 3:09 PM just west of Democrat Road. As per reports, the driver of a 2007 Toyota Tacoma traveled westbound before veering into the eastbound lane. As a result, he hit head-on a 2011 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Smith.
First responders arrived at the scene shortly after. Paramedics transported Smith to Kern Medical Center for treatment and evaluation. However, she succumbed to her injuries and died at the hospital.
The surrounding area closed for a brief time for cleanup and preliminary investigation, but has since reopened. Law enforcement did not announce further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident at this time. Further investigation of the crash is underway.
