Marcus Canizales of Hayward Dies in Highway 88 Motorcycle Crash [Sierra Nevada, CA]

Rider Injured in HWY 88 Fatal Collision

Sierra Nevada, CA (May 29, 2024) Marcus Canizales, 50, of Hayward, was killed following a Highway 88 motorcycle crash Monday afternoon.

It was around 5 p.m. when the fatal collision happened near Red Lake in Alpine County.

Officers said Canizales was driving a 2007 Harley Davidson V-Rod on the highway when he made an unsafe pass across the double solid yellow lines and crashed head-on with a 2007 BMW motorcycle driven by a 52-year-old man from Gardnerville, Nevada.

Canizales and the Nevada man were both ejected from their motorcycles.

The Nevada man sustained major injuries and was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe.

Investigators said both riders were wearing helmets during the accident.
