68-Year-Old Fatally Injured in Crash near Girvan Road, Frank Joesph Delahunty Arrested
REDDING, CA (April 4, 2018) – A 68-year-old woman of Anderson was killed in a hit-and-run collision at an intersection on Wednesday when a driver ran a stoplight.
Frank Joesph Delahunty, 24, drove away from the scene of a home burglary using a car stolen from the home at around 4:45 PM when he ran a red light at the intersection of Highway 273 and Girvan Road. According to police, Delahunty broadsided a Toyota Rav4 that was traveling on Girvan.
The driver of the Toyota, 68-year-old Marcie Jane Shelby, was taken to the hospital where she later died. She was identified by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office.
Police captured Delahunty in the area of Cedars Road after fleeing from the crash site on foot. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter, first-degree burglary, knowingly possessing a stolen vehicle, hit and run resulting in death, vehicle theft, driving on a suspended license, and a violation of his felony probation terms. Delahunty was on probation for possession of stolen property related to another vehicle theft earlier this year, and has admitted to being a methamphetamine addict.
The southbound lanes of Highway 273 were closed down for several hours during the investigation, but have since reopened. No other information is available at this time.
