Marche Zelita Dies After Crash on 51st Avenue in Laveen Village

Laveen Village, AZ (October 28, 2024) – On Sunday night, Marche Zelita Mercado died in a crash on 51st Avenue.

Around 7 p.m., officers arrived at 51st Avenue, north of Baseline Road, and found Mercado with serious injuries. 

She died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Investigators believe Mercado was crossing 51st Avenue mid-block, outside a designated crosswalk, when a northbound vehicle hit her.

Police confirmed that the vehicle involved remained at the scene. 

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office stated that the driver was an off-duty employee in their personal vehicle.

Authorities continue to investigate the fatal collision.
