Leonardo Villasenor Arrested in Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash in Tulare
TULARE, CA (January 9, 2020) – A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash Thursday night at an intersection in Tulare, police said.
The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. at West Inyo Avenue and D Street.
According to police, a male pedestrian was making his way across the street near the intersection when a blue Nissan Quest minivan hit him.
Paramedics rushed the victim to Kaweah Delta Hospital with severe injuries. The man, identified as 61-year-old Marcelino Escobedo of Tulare, never regained consciousness and remained in critical condition. He passed away on Monday.
The driver involved did not stop after the crash. Instead, he continued down West Inyo Avenue.
Tulare police arrested the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Leonardo Villasenor, Tuesday night. He will likely face felony hit and run charges.
Police say Villasenor was uncooperative regarding the whereabouts of his vehicle and they believe someone is hiding it for him or knows where it is.
Anyone who is assisting Villasenor by hiding, moving or tampering with the vehicle can and will be charged with accessory after the fact.
