Police Investigate Fatal Auto-Pedestrian Crash on Interstate 17 in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (June 11, 2023) – Saturday night, 29-year-old Marceliano Herrera died in a crash on Interstate 17 and Thunderbird Road.

The fatal crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on June 10.

Phoenix police say they got a call regarding a domestic violence incident and when they arrived they found a man laying in the roadway and a woman trying to help him.

EMS rushed Herrera to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

Herrera, according to witnesses, was clinging to a passenger door handle as the woman tried to exit the car. According to reports, he fell and was struck by the car.

Police say the driver immediately stopped, called 9-1-1, and tried to provide medical aid.

The driver did not show any signs of impairment.
