Gold Run Man Dead in Sutter County Crash on Highway 20
SUTTER COUNTY, CA (April 29, 2021) – Monday afternoon, authorities arrested Manuel Hernandez in a fatal auto accident on Highway 20.
According to police reports, the incident happened at around 4:10 p.m. on Highway 20 near West Butte Road.
The authorities confirmed that a Ford Escape headed west on Highway 20. Then, it attempted to drive past other vehicles while speeding.
Afterward, the Ford Escape crashed head-on with a Toyota Tacoma driving east on Highway 20, at 55 mph.
Then, a Subaru Foresto that had passed by the Ford Escape crashed into the debris.
Meanwhile, the 47-year-old Ford driver from Gold Run died at the scene. His identity remains undisclosed due to pending family notification.
On the other hand, the 37-year-old Toyota driver, Manuel Rivas Hernandez, suffered serious injuries. Thus, responders took him to Adventist Health/ Rideout with a broken left leg and head trauma.
Also, his passenger required hospitalization due to a laceration to the head and body pains.
Eventually, authorities found out that Hernandez drove while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Thus, the officers arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
The authorities continue to investigate the deadly Highway 20 crash.
